Drive if You Must has been under construction since October of 2006, right around the time that Sarah and Rich began a couple of weekly Jazz Standards gigs in Nelson BC. The opportunity to play music together twice a week quickly revealed the need for the two of us to stretch beyond some of the limitations of playing other peoples music, and to explore broader conceptions of genre, dynamics, lyrics and timbre. Both musicians have strong roots in Canadian Jazz and Dance music projects, and this project reflects that history, while venturing into truly cutting edge soundscapes. We are pleased to welcome sensational musicians Kiyoshi Elkuf and Jeff Steel into the band when venues permit.
