Mark Petersen is coming full circle this year – going back to his roots with his up and coming 4th album of modern blues. Born in Vancouver, BC in the quiet, medicated suburb of Lynn Valley, Mark lead a typical Canadian life until he picked up his first guitar in the early nineties as he started university. His interest in the blues could be considered unusual for a young man surrounded by Grunge and Vancouver’s pathetic radio dial, but nonetheless, Mark was captured by the emotional power and raw depth... the blues was his calling.
Petersen could be found learning the ropes at the legendary Yale Hotel under the wings of blues gurus Jack Lavin and Tim Hearsey. It was here that Mark earned his nick name "Fatneck" for his thick fat vocals, which were so unassuming in this tall lanky young man, and for the deep-necked Gibson he chose as his accomplice.
Petersen's list of accomplishments and successes are far too long to list here. Touring with Econoline Crush and fronting Threesixty just to name a few. In 2004, Mark decided to pursue his passion for new music by combining rock and U.K. style electronica. The result was his third album ‘Lost and Found.’ Although this seemed a huge career risk at the time, leading with his heart paid off. Four years have passed, and Mark finds himself going back to his first love, the blues. Its been a long time coming, but Vancouver has their eyes set on his latest album due out in November ’08. Mark for the first time in his career is performing solo shows, playing his fresh modern blues with his Gibson hollow-body by his side.
Keep an eye out for Mark... he’s somewhat of a throw-back, but his fat blues will fill your ears with new great music!
